More on Google Desktop Search Plus
Yesterday I blogged about Google Desktop Search Plus. I've just reindexed and it works great. Make sure you read the readme that comes with it for how to install it.
For what it's worth, here is the section I have added to the bottom of GDSPlus.conf. The best part is now I can find any file by doing "filetype:wav" or any other extension I'm looking for. And don't forget, entering someting like "disneyland filetype:psd" will find all your files with Disneyland in the title and psd in the extension.
The last section is experimental. It is meant to index anyfile without an extension as a text file. Use at your own risk. Could be helpful but use at your own risk.
# My Additions
AddNewExtension "bat", "0"
AddNewExtension "rtf", "2"
AddNewExtension "wri", "2"
AddNewExtension "wk4", "3"
AddNewExtension "psd", "5"
AddNewExtension "png", "8"
AddNewExtension "wav", "12"
AddNewExtension "rar", "18"
#Index files without an extension as text
AddNewExtension "", "0"
Google Desktop Search Plus
I haven't updated my GDS tips page yet but I wanted to pass this along:
Larry Gadea has written a tool called GDSPlus. This tool will allow you to specify what extensions GDS will index. This includes the ability to add new extensions not yet supported by Google, such as:
* .xml
* .log (mIRC and Trillian)
* .cs, .vb (Visual Studio .NET source code files)
* .frm, .bas, .cls (Visual Basic 6 source code files)
* any other extension that can be indexed as text (not PDFs etc.)
You can also remove support for any of the extensions that Google
included and you do not want indexed.

TinyURL.com - spyware??
In my post titled TinyURL.com - where tiny is better! I mentioned that I had created tinyurls for this site. I was told by someone that tinyurl.com generates spyware. I never knew that to be the case. If someone can varify that, please let me know.

TinyURL.com - where tiny is better!
I created Tiny URLs for my pages. Such a cool service for huge URLs like my site.

Updated my Google Desktop Tips & Tricks
I updated my Google Desktop Tips & Tricks page with the following new information:
Finding a File by Part of the Name
Let's say you want to find file called "U2-All That You Can't Leave Behind-Beautiful day.mp3"
In your search field type (no quotes) "Beautiful filetype:mp3"
Your results will come back: U2-All That You Can't Leave Behind-Beautiful day.mp3
Also, when you get your results back, clicking "Sort by Relevance" helps out quite a bit as well.
Password Protected Word File
GDS will index password protected word files. If you create a word file and put in a password and save it, GDS will index it and the file will be viewable via that Google Cache.
• Again, Google Desktop Search was meant for a single user PC. You created the file and it's password. You should know what it contains.
• If you do share you machine or don't want these files showing up in your searches, create a "Do Not Index" folder and add it to Google's Preferences.

Google Desktop Search Download
Google Desktop Search Download rocks the house!
When you install it, a process starts to run that indexes all your documents, Outlook and Outlook express email, AOL chats if you want to and so forth. The process runs in the background and doesn't interrupt your work.
What I love is how when you now do a Google web search, you also get a result that says these X number of results are on your desktop already.
Why are you still reading this? Go get it!

7Online.com: Middle School Teacher In Trouble Over Presidential Photo?
This is so stupid. A teacher is in trouble for putting up a picture of President Bush. She put up the picture next to the other presidents we've had. Parents are whining because she didn't put up a picture of Kerry.
People, last time I checked Kerry isn't president. His picture, if it belongs anywhere in that classroom, should go with the other 99 sitting Senators.
